Hello and welcome to SKINCARE. We are an online beauty magazine with a focus on skin care products review. Our primary aim is to provide information about beauty products available in the UK and to help our users select skin care appropriate to their needs. We do not sell the products we feature and we only list select manufacturers whose products have been tested by at least one member of the SKINCARE team, which makes us a great independent source of information! Our primary concern is with skin care. However, we also take interest in environmental issues, charitable work, and organic products, which is why we allow the people involved in these fields to advertise on our website.
PRODUCTS AND MORE
All too often a product is purchased for the wrong reasons or in the absence of essential knowledge, which leads to later disappointment with its appearance, usability or quality. Our Product Pages strive to take the guesswork out of buying skin care. This is how it works:
- The manufacturer provides us with a description of their product, which is always featured at the top of the product review page. This is the manufacturer's chance to pitch the product to their prospective customers, just as they would in a shop.
- We then list the ingredients of the product, as provided by the manufacturer. We believe that knowing the contents of the skin care we buy and use is imperative. Our skin is permeable; it absorbs everything we put onto it, including the substances contained in our skin care products. Consequently, if these products contain toxic chemicals, the toxins can penetrate our skin and end up in the blood stream. We would not eat poisonous things or ones we know nothing about, so why should we allow these to enter our bodies through our skin?! Our Terminology section contains a dictionary of ingredients and terms commonly used in the skin care industry, which will make the information provided by the manufacturer about your product easier to understand.
- The next paragraph is a short introduction to the manufacturer, their aims, ethos and vision. This allows our users to learn about the people that make the products. Further information can be obtained from our News and Interviews section, which features regular updates from the manufacturers, interviews with beauty professionals and exciting articles on skin care.
- The next stage is SKINCARE's own review of the product based on four criteria: appearance and packaging, smell and texture, ease of use and effect on skin. The exercise is informative rather than evaluative, in that we strive to tell the public more about the product rather than appraise it. However, there is a rating system in points out of ten, which is then converted into a percentage summary located at the top of the page.
- The final category - customer service and care - is measure by our independent Mystery Shopper. The tasks performed by the Mystery Shopper vary from product to product but include those expected of a regular customer: buying, enquiries and returns. In the rare instances when the Mystery Shopper is not satisfied with the quality of service provided by the manufacturer, a complaint is made and the handling of this complaint is included in the rating. - The reviews provided by SKINCARE represent only the personal opinion of the assessor. But tastes differ, which is why immediately below you will find reviews by the general public with a short comment and a rating in the said five categories. As a policy, we publish both positive and negative reviews (although not ones which could be found offensive). The average rating in the five categories is displayed next to the user's name, whilst the average rating of all the users who provided a review is displayed as a percentage at the top of the page.
